BENEFITS AND USES OF SPATHIPHYLLUM LAURETTA
Because of the striking shape of the large white flowers Spathiphyllum is also called spoon plant. Because of this, the plant has been enormously popular since the 19th century. And we understand why!
If you take good care of the plant, it will continuously produce new flowers and you can enjoy this eye-catcher for a very long time.
Spoon plants are highly air-purifying. They convert CO2 into oxygen, and do this better than many other plants. The plant can also very effectively break down harmful substances in the air and improve humidity. Handy for city dwellings and houses with little ventilation.
CARE:
LIGHT: They like light, however, direct sunshine can damage plant leaves. A mixture of light and shade is great, if you can provide it. If you see the leaves yellowing this could be caused by too much sunlight.
WATERING: This plant does drink a lot of water in the summer. Keeping the soil moist (not over watered) and allowing it to dry slightly near the top is a good idea. If in the winter the soil stays slightly damp for a couple of weeks or more, that’s ok , don’t water any more. Your plant will let you know when it needs more.
SOIL: A peat based potting mix with perlite is ideal or other peat based mixes.
HUMIDITY: Misting leaves regularly will improve humidity and keep it happy.
FERTILISER: Once a month, balance NPK: 20-20-20 or lower equivalent balance NPK ratio.
