Alocasia Amazonica Dwarf is an exotic foliage plant with ‘jungle’ beauty. It has large dark green leaves with prominent silver-white veins in the classic elephant’s ear shape. This compact variety is perfect indoors in pots as it only gets to 30cm tall.
Alocasia Amazonica Dwarf Characteristics
General Information | Alocasia Amazonica Dwarf is commonly referred to as Elephants Ear due to the size and shape of the leaves. It might enter a natural dormancy phase in winter. Remove dead leaves and water a lot less, it will reshoot when the weather gets warm enough. |
Size | Height: 30-40cm – Width: 45-50cm. |
Foliage | Leathery, arrow-shaped leaves in deep green with wavy edges. |
Positioning | Bright, filtered sunlight, no strong, direct sun. Can survive in 80% shade but prefer about 60% shade. |
Soil | A fast-draining, well-aerated potting soil. An organic, loose soil that contains a good amount of peat moss is ideal. If the soil is heavy, lighten it with some builder’s sand or perlite. |
Watering | It needs to be watered when the first 1 – 2 inches of soil is dry, that usually takes about 1 week in an average home environment. It may vary depends on environment and light condition, but it’s always safer to underwater or give the soil a check before doing the watering. When watering, thoroughly saturate soil until a little water runs out of the botton of the pot. |
Ideal For | Shaded patio or indoors in a well lit room. Suited to underplanting in tropical style gardens. |
